Achievements

Entrepreneurship

How has our work in education demonstrated  entrepreneurship and has fostered entrepreneurship in others?

Our work in education has demonstrated entrepreneurship by 1) showing to the centres / schools the assets (lands) that they had which was not used, 2) showing them the  potentials ( school children and their teachers constitute, sound environment) all those centres have, what they could harvest after applying methods and techniques that we taught them, how integrated agriculture (agriculture and live stock) can contribute to the economic development of families and the whole nation, if practiced by school children.

After disseminating these skills to the targeted group, the school children, their teachers, OVCs own the project and become changing agents in their families and communities, further they become famous entrepreneurs in their regions.

Sustainability

How is our work in the field of education sustainable financially, socially and environmentally ?

In the beginning we used membership contributions, Land hiring, preparation of Murindi demonstration site, visits to 19 schools.establishing school gardens at 9 schoos(6 primary schools,2 secondary schools and one reintegration camp). After, the RSGI was supported by APFH .This support helped the schools to acquire seeds, wood, fruit trees, and labor and other expenses related to running cost.  Socially, this initiative brings together school children and their teachers together, for common goal. Also, school children learn to work together, those from middle class as well as those who are coming from poor families, and, boys and girls are equally treated. On the side of environment, our work enhanced environment control at early age, because before disseminating any skill, environment issues are taught to school children as the foundation while emphasizing on how to grow safe food without using too much pesticides.

Impacts

What have been the major educational and economic impacts of our work ?

The RSGI became an added value to schools and centers that benefited from our services. It provided active learning by linking gardens to other subjects including maths, biology, reading and writing; it increased relevance and quality of education for rural and urban children by introducing in the curricula important life skills

On the economic side, the RSGI enabled school children to be familiarized with methods of sustainable production of food that are applicable to the homestead or farms and important for household food security. It promoted the generation of income to schools. It improved food availability in the schools, and reduced the incidence of malnourished children attending schools.
